Why Rent?

Parents with new students often ask: Should I rent or purchase?

There are several possible answers and you must decide what is best for your budget and circumstance. If a student is just starting you may want to primarily consider renting until you determine if your child is going to stick with it or not. As youth grow, they will eventually need a different size until they reach a 4/4 size. You may even want to purchase and sell the instrument on your own to another student when it is time to move up in size. Or you may wish to pass the instrument down to another one of your own children.

As your child grows into larger sizes, you will hear a remarkable increase in volume produced by the instrument. Your child might even excel enough that you need a better instrument to accommodate their growing ability and talent. Either way, there are many considerations and renting is always a good option as you determine your musical needs. A portion of your paid rental fees can go towards the purchase of a new instrument from Young Musicians, Inc. Ask us for details when you call.

What Size?

It's critical for a student to have the
proper size instrument!

We are experts at judging the size. Having the correct fractional size for them to play is vital and this can best be determined in person in our instrument shop or your teacher can and should advise you in most cases on what size you need.

If you are going north from the intersection of N820 and US377 you will travel about 5 miles before you turn left on Kroger Dr. then left on Park Vista Circle. If headed north on 35W simply take exit 63 Heritage Trace Blvd and go about 5 miles until that same road turns into Kroger Dr.

Care & Returns

Instrument care and upkeep is very important to the life of your rental instrument.

When you rent, we guarantee to have fresh strings in good playing order. If a string breaks while you are renting, it is your responsibility to replace it with the same quality string. Keeping your instrument out of the heat and especially out of a hot car is a major concern. Remember, if you are not comfortable in that temperature, your instrument is not either! Using a small amount of polish/cleaner to remove the build up of rosin dust and clean off fingerprints makes for a happy instrument, too. We will give you more details about cleaning and upkeep at your first rental appointment.

You may be returning your instrument because you have decided to purchase or move up in size. And yes, some people quit because playing a string instrument was just not for them. Either way, it is your responsibility to return the instrument back to us in the same condition it was delivered to you.

This means you must:

Remove any stickers or tape you may have put on the fingerboard or bow
Remove any of your personal items from the case.
Never ever apply any type of sticker or tape to the top, back or sides of your rental instrument
If you are shipping your instrument back to us, it is important to package it properly and be sure to put something like a sponge or soft cloth under the tailpiece and bridge area in case it should fall during the shipping process
Always insure your instrument for its full value.
If it was to be damaged in shipping, you are responsible to make the insurance claim
